  • 1.2 million dollar win at L’auberge

A Dickinson woman won more than $1.2 million after hitting the jackpot on a slot machine at a Lake Charles, La., casino over Labor Day weekend.

Rhonda Alvarez won the money Saturday morning at L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort after she decided to stay and play a while longer after her husband, Cecil, decided to call it a night, the casino announced. He had recently hit a $13,000 jackpot a few months earlier, and “was still feeling celebratory about that win when he went to bed,” according to Kerry Andersen, director of media relations & public affairs for the casino.

Alvarez told the casino she had a “good feeling” about the Wheel of Fortune machine and predicted it was “going to hit,” Andersen said. After playing 30 minutes, her gut feeling paid off with a win that made her a millionaire.

Alvarez is the second big winner in recent months. In February, a Humble man hit a $2.5-million jackpot on the Wheel of Fortune machine.

“We are excited to celebrate with yet another big winner at L’Auberge,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager of L’Auberge Lake Charles Keith W. Henson in a statement.

Cecil Alvarez called his wife’s win a “blessing from God.”
